Fall Creek Corridor

In 2016, the Fall Creek Place Foundation gathered input from neighbors and spearheaded an effort to create a master plan for the park.  With the goal of creating a space that connects the natural environment with recreation and the arts, Craig Kids Memorial Park is a park unlike any other in Indianapolis, featuring walkways, performance areas, landscaping, a nature playscape and a unique art playscape where art pieces function as playground equipment. The park is a highlight of Fall Creek Place but also an attraction for residents from all over Indianapolis!

Former Indiana Secretary of State, Larry Conrad, had the idea that a monument could commemorate both Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy in the park where Kennedy’s calming remarks were made on the night of King’s assassination. Indiana Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh funded a juried competition for a monument design in 1994 with resources from the newly-formed Pacers Foundation. 

Indianapolis writer, Greg R. Perry submitted a design concept that was chosen from a pool of 50 submissions. The monument, dedicated in 1995, is constructed from two massive curves of Cor-Ten steel cut with the outlines of Kennedy and King, cast by Indianapolis sculptor Daniel Edwards. From each of these rounded steel curves of steel leap two half figures, reaching their hands out to one another over a walkway. “The monument is a meeting of opposing artistic sensibilities not normally found together in public monuments: abstract meets figurative,” writes NUVO art critic Dan Grossman. “It’s not just a piece of sculpture that happens to be outside in a public space,” says project consultant Steve Mannheimer. “It’s truly a civic sculpture.”

Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place has been serving some of the best soul food in The Mid Western Region. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place has become known for a variety of different down-home recipes from their famous fried chicken wings and savory pork chops to the mouth-watering and refreshing lemonade. Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place was started in 1988 by Ms. Jessie, she loved to cook for her family and friends by preparing southern dishes. Ms. Jessie initially opened a six-seat countertop diner that served her home-style cooking to the local neighborhood.

Later Ms. Jessie's daughter Nell became active in the business, making Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place a family affair. Nell began adding some of her own well-loved home style recipes. Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place has since grown from a well known and loved diner into a nationally known soul food place that creates a wonderful experience that is good for the soul.

Today, Isaac & Cynthia Wilson and family continue the tradition by serving the beloved recipes passed down to them by Ms. Jessie and Nell. In addition, they have increased the menu offerings to include a variety of well known southern dishes. Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place invites you to join them daily for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it is their pleasure and honor to serve the best homemade from scratch southern style cooking North of The Mason Dixon Line. Baby’s is brought to you by the team behind the ball & biscuit on Mass. Ave.  We chose this spot at the corner of 22nd and Talbott St. for Baby’s because of the diversity and energy of the surrounding neighborhoods.  And we were enamored with the building’s history – including stints ranging from grocery store to drag-show venue.  Our vision for Baby’s is a casual, fun and approachable spot suited for families and b&b cocktail enthusiasts alike.  Our aesthetic gives a little wink to the past, and we hope to play a meaningful role in this area’s future.

Established in 1961, Martin Luther King Jr. Park sits on nearly 14 acres on the near north side. The park is named after civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was was instrumental in the adoption of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and was subsequently awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. The south end of the park features the Landmark for Peace memorial of King and Robert Kennedy, who in 1968 gave a historic address informing Indianapolis residents that King had been assassinated in Memphis Tennessee.

MLK Park has a swimming pool, playground equipment, tennis courts, softball diamonds, shelters, horse shoes, and basketball courts. The Kennedy King Park Center is located just south of the Landmark for Peace memorial. The center hosts Indy Parks staff and an exhibit room dedicated to Dr. King and the history of the Civil Rights Movement in partnership with the Kennedy King Memorial Initiative.

Footlite’s mission is to produce musicals and other dramatic offerings and to provide for education and training of persons in the theatre through hands-on experience and classes in the various stages of dramatic and musical theatre.

Footlite Musicals is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation founded in 1955. We offer the best of Broadway presenting seven musical productions each year. A new show is on stage about every six weeks beginning in July.
