As the Indianapolis Museum of Art has grown to become an internationally renowned museum, we now turn our attention toward increasing our emphasis on combining art with nature.

This combination of art and nature was always part of the original vision—and now we see a vision for the next fifty years. 

The galleries are surrounded by gardens, water features, over a hundred acres of woodland filled with surprise and beauty. The campus itself is ideal for performances, afternoon walks, kite-flying, cloud-gazing, memory-making, new-idea-having. One of Indianapolis’ oldest parks, Holliday Park is located just six miles north of downtown and encompasses 94-acres of beautiful green space. Visitors can explore the nature center, play on one of the city’s best, hard-to-leave playgrounds, hike more than 3.5 miles of picturesque trails or take a stroll around the one-of-a-kind Holliday Park Ruins.

Illinois Street Food Emporium is a great place with a deep connection to the community. The restaurant serves salads, sandwiches, pasta, quesadillas, flatbread pizzas and myriad sweets and breads, including croissants. The signature Tarkington Chicken is an entrée of grilled chicken with wild rice, mushrooms, carrots, onions, artichoke and spinach with Monterey Jack cheese sauce.

Juan Solomon Park, located in the Crooked Creek neighborhood of Indianapolis, is one of those unique all-in-one Indy parks that has something for everyone. Looking for a fun playground for the kids? Check. Looking for a place to go creek stomping? Check. Looking for a woodsy park to hike and be surrounded by nature? Juan Solomon Park has that, too.

Acquired in 1971, this 41-acre park is named for Juan Solomon. Son of a Methodist minister and schoolteacher, Juan Solomon was highly involved in civic activities within the Indianapolis African-American Community.
