In 2016, the Fall Creek Place Foundation gathered input from neighbors and spearheaded an effort to create a master plan for the park.  With the goal of creating a space that connects the natural environment with recreation and the arts, Craig Kids Memorial Park is a park unlike any other in Indianapolis, featuring walkways, performance areas, landscaping, a nature playscape and a unique art playscape where art pieces function as playground equipment. We are a Black, queer, woman-owned Indianapolis-based independent bookstore dedicated to highlighting banned books and uplifting the work of marginalized authors. Loudmouth was founded by bestselling author and Indianapolis native, Leah Johnson in 2023 in response to ongoing book banning attacks that target BIPOC and queer books and authors. At Loudmouth, we’ll always loudly and proudly proclaim our passion for stories by, for, and about marginalized people.

Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place has been serving some of the best soul food in The Mid Western Region. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place has become known for a variety of different down-home recipes from their famous fried chicken wings and savory pork chops to the mouth-watering and refreshing lemonade. Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place was started in 1988 by Ms. Jessie, she loved to cook for her family and friends by preparing southern dishes. Ms. Jessie initially opened a six-seat countertop diner that served her home-style cooking to the local neighborhood.

Later Ms. Jessie's daughter Nell became active in the business, making Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place a family affair. Nell began adding some of her own well-loved home style recipes. Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place has since grown from a well known and loved diner into a nationally known soul food place that creates a wonderful experience that is good for the soul.

Today, Isaac & Cynthia Wilson and family continue the tradition by serving the beloved recipes passed down to them by Ms. Jessie and Nell. In addition, they have increased the menu offerings to include a variety of well known southern dishes. Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place invites you to join them daily for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it is their pleasure and honor to serve the best homemade from scratch southern style cooking North of The Mason Dixon Line. At just four acres, the Watson Road Bird Preserve is one of Indy Parks’ smallest sites, but it provides an important oasis for birds, butterflies, and other wildlife just blocks from the Indiana State Fairgrounds. First established in 1925, the preserve is a destination for Indy Birding and easily accessed by the Fall Creek Greenway Trail.  The natural area of Watson Road Bird Preserve is managed by the DPW Land Stewardship Team, who oversee 1600 acres of natural habitat throughout the Indy Parks system.

We source our beans from experts who search out the best specialty green coffee available and pay a fair price for it. We roast light to medium, with the intent to highlight the coffee’s natural origin flavor, avoiding more roasty or smoky flavors. While coffee is very versatile and everyone has their preferences, we like this approach because we feel it showcases each unique coffee’s potential and gives a very flavorful cup.

Located just south of the Fall Creek River at 25th and Meridian St, George E. Kessler Park is landscaped with walkways and overlooks Fall Creek. This hidden gem offers beautiful colors of trees and flowers during the spring and summer.

The park is named after city planner and landscape architect George E. Kessler who designed much of Indy’s park and greenway systems along with those in cities across the globe.

The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center offers modern event facilities in a historical setting. The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center first opened in 1892 and has hosted more than 129 Indiana State Fairs. Prior to 1892, the first 40 Indiana State Fairs were held at rotating sites around the state.

In 1990, the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center began its present existence as a year-round events center. Since that time, many of our venues have undergone renovations and upgrades that have continued to bring modern comforts to our ability to be a great site for conventions, consumer shows, conferences, sports, concerts, fairs, exhibitions, meetings, weddings, banquets and retreats.

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis was founded in 1925 through the stewardship and inspiration of Mary Stewart Carey (1859–1938), a citizen of Indianapolis. After visiting the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Carey was determined to create a similar museum for Indianapolis. With the help of several civic-minded women and contributions from children in nearby neighborhoods, the museum sprang to life. Over the course of 95 years, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis has grown in size and stature to become the biggest and best children’s museum in the world.

Herron-Morton Place Park is located in the middle of the neighborhood on Alabama Street between 19th and 20th. A cornerstone project completed by the Herron-Morton Place Foundation in 2003, the park is an evocative tribute to the neighborhood’s history and spirit.

Visitors will notice a large granite boulder which was a gift by IPS School 45 in 1916 to commemorate Camp Morton, a prisoner of war camp during the Civil War. A bronze historic marker also identifies the use of the land during that time.

Footlite’s mission is to produce musicals and other dramatic offerings and to provide for education and training of persons in the theatre through hands-on experience and classes in the various stages of dramatic and musical theatre.

Footlite Musicals is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation founded in 1955. We offer the best of Broadway presenting seven musical productions each year. A new show is on stage about every six weeks beginning in July.

Established in 1961, Martin Luther King Jr. Park sits on nearly 14 acres on the near north side. The park is named after civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was was instrumental in the adoption of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and was subsequently awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. The south end of the park features the Landmark for Peace memorial of King and Robert Kennedy, who in 1968 gave a historic address informing Indianapolis residents that King had been assassinated in Memphis Tennessee.

MLK Park has a swimming pool, playground equipment, tennis courts, softball diamonds, shelters, horse shoes, and basketball courts. The Kennedy King Park Center is located just south of the Landmark for Peace memorial. The center hosts Indy Parks staff and an exhibit room dedicated to Dr. King and the history of the Civil Rights Movement in partnership with the Kennedy King Memorial Initiative.

Former Indiana Secretary of State, Larry Conrad, had the idea that a monument could commemorate both Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy in the park where Kennedy’s calming remarks were made on the night of King’s assassination. Indiana Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh funded a juried competition for a monument design in 1994 with resources from the newly-formed Pacers Foundation. 

Indianapolis writer, Greg R. Perry submitted a design concept that was chosen from a pool of 50 submissions. The monument, dedicated in 1995, is constructed from two massive curves of Cor-Ten steel cut with the outlines of Kennedy and King, cast by Indianapolis sculptor Daniel Edwards. From each of these rounded steel curves of steel leap two half figures, reaching their hands out to one another over a walkway. “The monument is a meeting of opposing artistic sensibilities not normally found together in public monuments: abstract meets figurative,” writes NUVO art critic Dan Grossman. “It’s not just a piece of sculpture that happens to be outside in a public space,” says project consultant Steve Mannheimer. “It’s truly a civic sculpture.”
